Introduction

Introduction
Ok guys. It seems we're getting a lot of people who are for some reason or another posting in HCL threads like these. That's absolutely fine if you're not comfortable with entering data in the wiki but if you are comfortable editing the wiki then please don't post your details here also. So to help those confused when it comes to adding your stuff to the wiki I will show you how you can add in your info correctly.

Lets start from the beginning. How to get to the wiki. You have to click on the "OSx86 Project" text on the top right corner of any InsanelyMac page. I am currently logged in, so if you aren’t logged in or don’t have an account, you will need to take care of that now. You are required to have an account to edit the wiki!

Then scroll down the page, and find the Hardware section.

Then you will need to find your version, whether it be 10.5.1, 10.5.2, and so on. Then, click on either Components, Portable Computers or Desktop Computers. The Desktop Computers page is only for pre-built desktops from the manufacturer, not ones you build yourself. Obviously Laptops are prebuilt ones too.

I’ll now cover how to add info to each of the three sections: Components, Portable Computers and Desktop Computers.

Components
-Motherboard
We are going to start with adding your motherboard. Using the nice little contents list, find and click on your manufacturer. Across from the name, click the [edit] button.

Then you will be shown some code. Everything is organized by chipset, and then alphabetically in the motherboard section. I recommend having another tab/window open so you know where you should insert you system. To insert your system in the appropriate place use this code: (The red text is text you should replace with your actual information)

CODE
|- < Make sure this is at the beginning and end of your system, no need for two, just one
|Motherboard Model
|Chipset (Northbridge & Southbridge)
|
* Install Method:
* BIOS Version:; Revision:
* Audio: Model, List any patches used (including ones from the install DVD)
* LAN: Model, List any patches used (including ones from the install DVD)
* SATA & IDE: Does SATA work? Any options in BIOS or Patches? Same thing with IDE
* Optical Drive: Which one? Any weird problems with installation?
* Do shutdown, reboot and sleep work?
* Any other details
|Does PC-EFI and/or the Vanilla Kernel work on your system?
|Does everything work without patching? If no, say what needs patching
|- <>

If you haven’t tested a feature, then write “Not Tested”
If you are just to lazy to find out, write “Unknown”

Click “Show Preview “ to make sure you did everything right, then enter the CAPTCHA (the letters from the image) and then click “Save Page”

-Processor
Now we will add your processor. The processor sections are again, organized by model. Pentiums, then Core 2 Duo, C2 Quads, C2Es and Xeons, (Same kind of thing with the AMD section) Again follow the code, replace the red with your info:

CODE
|- < Make sure this is at the beginning and end of your system, no need for two, just one
|Your processor manufacturer, series, then model. An example: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300
|Anything special selected at install? Does it work right? If so, put “Fully Working”
|What does system profiler see your processor as?
|Is it fully working without any patches? (Put Vanilla Kernel right here if it works, if not tested, just don't add)
|- <>

Again, click “Show Preview “ to make sure you did everything right, then enter the CAPTCHA (the letters from the image) and then click “Save Page”

-Video Card
Now to the video card. This section, is firstly ordered by series. Again follow the code, replace the red with your info:

CODE
|- < Make sure this is at the beginning and end of your system, no need for two, just one
|Your Board Model & Memory. ex. GeForce 8800GT 512MB
|Board Manufacturer ex. EVGA
|Patches Used, if any. If none needed, write “No Patch Needed”
|Do QE and CI work?
|Can you change resolutions?
|Does it fully work without patches?
|- <>

Again, click “Show Preview “ to make sure you did everything right, then enter the CAPTCHA (the letters from the image) and then click “Save Page”

Woila! Please read the Conclusion as well!

Portable Computers
Find your manufacturer, then click [edit]. Remember, keep it alphabetized. Here is the code for laptops, again, replace the red text with your info:

CODE
=== Your Model, ex. Latitude D530 ===

* Install Method:
* Chipset: (Northbridge & Southbridge)
* Processor:
* Audio: Model, List any patches used (including ones from the install DVD)
* LAN: Model, List any patches used (including ones from the install DVD)
* Video: Model
* SATA & IDE: Does SATA work? Any options in BIOS or Patches? Same thing with IDE
* Any other details, specific install requirements, etc.
* How to install: (If anything major, not the basics)
*# <>

Click “Show Preview “ to make sure you did everything right, then enter the CAPTCHA (the letters from the image) and then click “Save Page”

Woila! Please read the Conclusion as well!

Desktop Computers
Find your manufacturer, then click [edit]. Remember, keep it alphabetized. Here is the code for desktops, again, replace the red text with your info:

CODE
=== Your Model, ex. Dimension 300 ===

Install Method:
Board:
Chipset: (Northbridge & Southbridge)
Processor:
* Audio: Model, List any patches used (including ones from the install DVD)
* LAN: Model, List any patches used (including ones from the install DVD)
* SATA & IDE: Does SATA work? Any options in BIOS or Patches? Same thing with IDE

Conclusion
There you go, if you have any questions feel free to pm me, any of the other Wiki Staff members or a Moderator. Please don’t delete anything like the table headers. Thank you!

If you don’t get it just add it to the HCL Thread using the template provided in the first post and we will take care of it! It really isn’t as hard as it looks! Just read and follow my instructions!

Also, If you find that your system/parts are already in the wiki, and something is different in your install (Kalyway vs. iATKOS) just add your install method to the install method piece, and then at the bottom of the notes, just add something like this:

CODE
Kalyway:
Audio:
etc.....
